EH Student Featured on "The Casual Academic"
EH student Zak Breckenridge eloquently discusses Environmental Humanities on a recent episode of Casual Academic: A Literary Podcast. Zak and host, Alex, talk about both the general concept of the environmental humanities as well as some of the more complex issues addressed by the field including environmental racism, politics and gender. The full-length podcast will delve deeper into these issues and explore the ways that a humanist perspective sheds new light on environmental issues.
Zak’s primary interests within the field include American environmental history and the portrayal of the environment and human’s interactions with the environment within American literature. On the “Casual Academic” he and Alex respond to a book entitled “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers in which marginalized people including the deaf protagonist are given space to grow into fully fleshed out and relatable characters.
