Casey Clifford Published in Jejune Magazine
Jejune Magazine recently featured Casey Clifford, Environmental Humanities second-year student, for
her paintings in a segment entitled, “Breathing Through Masks.” The article features photographs of several of Casey’s paintings that depict people
in everyday settings with masks over their mouths. These paintings are part of a project
that aims to highlight the issue of air pollution in Salt Lake City. The magazine
feature also includes Casey’s response to questions about both her work and the problem
of poor air quality in Salt Lake and the United States as a whole.
Casey has a deep knowledge of air pollution and a passion for shedding light on this issue. She believes that “a dialogue needs to be opened so these issues are brought to the surface of the conversations in this city, and worldwide. Without it, we will all sink under the veil of the inversion.” Casey chooses to use art as a way to open up this dialogue and engage those who may not be aware of the severity of this issue. She explains that “Art is the best way that [she] can communicate [her] thoughts and ideas, and hopefully [her] paintings can help to create awareness and inspire change.”
The article includes Casey’s advice to individuals who wish to help improve air quality
as well as a list of organizations that people can support or volunteer with in order
to combat air pollution. It highlights the importance of individual action and the
role of art in inspiring people to make a change.
