Jai Hamid Bashir, EH student, Publishes Commentary on Children & Nature Network
Save Our Red Rocks Landscapes: Discovering the Desert’s Magic Through Play. As one of the Network’s Guest Writers, Jai argues that environmental leaders consider
the desert as a place of play. Inspired by an assignment for Stephen Trimble’s Environmental
Humanities Writing Seminar, Jai wrote this op-ed that advocates taking children to
the desert to play, foster a sense of respect for the landscape, and create a sense
of ownership and advocacy. Appreciating the rewards of the desert landscape is but
a part of the shift in considering the desert worthy of conservation and protection.
Jai is a Natural Leader, one of the young leaders trained by Children & Nature Network to increase equitable access to nature in local communities.
