Julia Corbett, EH Professor, Presents Keynote in Taiwan
Julia Corbett will present the opening keynote Friday Nov. 10 in Taiwan at the Science Communication Association conference. Her talk, The Power & Promise of Citizen Science, discusses the growing practice of citizen science, which is part revolution (for
the way it removes barriers between expert and amateur) and part renaissance (because
individuals from all walks of life can learn and discover the world around them).
The talk reviews various forms of citizen science projects, communication and retention
for volunteer engagement, educational outcomes, scientists’ attitudes, and recommendations
for the future.
Julia Corbett is a Professor in the Department of Communication and Environmental Humanities Graduate Program. With a background in journalism and environmental studies, she writes both academic research and creative nonfiction about human relationships with the natural world. Prof. Corbett engages students in citizen science in her classes, and she is a Citizen Scientist herself.
