Kathleen Metcalf to Attend Orion Workshop
Kathleen Metcalf, EH Graduate (2017), has been accepted into the Orion Environmental Writers' Workshop. The Orion workshop is a week-long annual writing workshop that is aimed at those who wish to improve their environmental writing. The workshop connects participants with Orion writers, builds skills and connections and encourages writers to demonstrate a commitment to the natural world.
Orion, originally the Orion Nature Quarterly, was founded in 1982. Orion’s mission is to inspire readers to connect with the natural world and think about new ways for humanity to interact with, protect and care for the planet. The readership of Orion branches beyond activist environmentalists and provides a place for publicly accessible information about our relationship with the earth.
Throughout the week, Kathleen will attend small-group workshops with topics ranging from poetry to short stories to nonfiction. Presentations on the process of publishing, one-on-one meetings, staff readings and visits from special guests will add to the experience as Kathleen works on a manuscript and is inspired by the other nature writers who she engages with.
Kathleen is the creative director at Torrey House Press, a nonprofit literary press with a dedicated focus on conservation via both fiction and literary nonfiction.
